Post A Quick Guide to Federal Solar Tax Credits

A Quick Guide to Federal Solar Tax Credits

The Federal Government is taking many steps toward making solar energy systems affordable and feasible for millions of Americans across the country. For years, Solar Electric and Solar Thermal Systems for your home or office were simply too expensive for more than the wealthiest of Americans to afford. However, recently, prices for solar energy products have fallen, and government subsidies for their purchase and installation have risen.

The Federal Government offers a 30% tax rebate for the purchase of Solar Energy for your home. The 30% tax credit is applied an income tax credit, where you can essentially write off 30% of the cost of system (including installation) on your tax return. Recently, the Federal Tax Credit for Solar Energy was extended through the year 2016 (it was previously set to end at the end of 2008) and increased to cap on tax credits from $2,000 to $3,000.

What solar systems do these credits apply to? The Federal Tax Credit covers both Solar Electric (PV) Systems which provide electrical power for your home, and for Solar Hot Water Heaters which provide domestic hot water and radiant heating for your home. There are some stipulations that must be followed for your Solar System to be applicable for these credits, the major one being that Solar Hot Water Heaters must be certified by the SRCC (Solar Rating and Certification Corporation) in order to apply.

The Federal Solar Tax Credits are run through the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), the national tax resource. If you have any specific questions about where to find the application forms, or how to file for your tax credit, you should contact the IRS by phone, email, or visiting their website. There are also a number of solar companies that provide detailed information and guidance on the Federal Solar Tax Credits, including Silicon Solar Inc.

If you are a looking for a great resource on information about Federal Solar Tax Credits, and Solar Products to save you money on your electric and/or heating bills, Silicon Solar, a large Solar Energy Company from New York is a great first stop – there over 300 unique Solar Products can be found at Solar Panels, Fountains, Solar Lights, Thin Film Panels - Manufacturer. When you are there, take a look at Silicon Solar’s Grid-Tie Complete Solar Systems, Off-Grid Complete Solar Systems, and their line of SunMaxx Solar Hot Water Heaters, and take advantage of Federal Tax Credits to help pay for these systems at your own home.
