Hmm.... There's ALOT to learn!

With green power being relatively new on the internet it's a nice niche to get into...

I realized something... As a marketing guy, I don't know very much about the industry at all. I love the concept, however the language and technical details of the products are going to be a huge learning curve.

Green power is on it's way into the market place.

Green energy is the next big thing. As fuel prices increase, more and more people are going to turn to alternatives like solar energy. There's heaps of resources for people to go solar now, but it's still cheaper to suck up black crud and pollute the atmosphere. However, because the oil companies have not invested in infrastructure at the same rate that the world is using energy, oil prices are rising. Some say that the reason solar energy is not popular is because there's no enough solar panels to go around. That's not exactly true. Solar panels are made from silicon, which is just sand. Sand is the second most abundant resource on earth besides water. Very soon, the solar industry is going to surge forward and solar power will be the new oil. Of course this is all my personal opinion -- and the way I see it, but I couldn't be far wrong. This is why building a renewable energy website right now is a good idea.

The main thing is to get people talking about it, AND learning about it.
That's the hard part

Do you mean in relation to websites, or for people in general, in every day life?

Hey GSolar,

In marketing there is what is called "Top of Mind recognition" and "Branding".

On your website you've got "Photovoltaics" for example.

Personally I would know what to do with a photovoltaic, let alone it being on "top of mind" when I think of alternative energy sources. I can't imagine that these are household words yet.

The point is that what we're asking the public to do is buy these products, and before they do that they have to have a certain amount of comfort level with them.

DO WE KNOW HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY WE USE?
Currently when we want electricity for an appliance, we plug the appliance into the wall socket, not giving much regard for voltages, wattage, amps etc.

A question might be, can the public be educated as to how much energy they would need to run a toaster, furnace, air conditioner, hair drier etc.. This would give them some idea of what to expect with alternative energy.

It's a whole new mind set.

I agree that many people get really confused as to how many solar panels they'd need to power different appliances. I've seen it all over the Internet. Therefore, one of the next things I want to add is a GOOD solar power calculator. I've noticed that many websites offer "round-about" information, but it's always hard to follow, and some sites just plain out charge for "consultation". However, the amount of solar power that's needed can be calculated and I don't see a reason why it all has to be so difficult. I will make it my mission to create a website section on we're green, that anyone can come to and find easy to read and understand information, and leave "educated" and confident that they've got a good idea of what they'd need to go solar. I believe that this resource alone will help to make We're green very useful and popular, because from the information I've found online, most explanations are confusing, to say the least.

Regarding "branding".. yeah, if you're selling something branding is extremely important. However, We're Green isn't selling anything (yet). The term "photovoltaics" is an extremely popular term which is synonymous with solar panels. However I've already created pages on "solar panels", and considering that I am using SEO to build the pages, it's only fitting that I add the term "photovoltaics" as well as "solar panels" and all other associated terms. Photovoltaics might be a big word, but there are plenty of people around who know what it means and when those people type it into a search engine, I'd like for them to find We're Green. This site is brand new, but over time, this website will contain information on all keywords and related keyword that you can think of. Not just photovoltaics, but all sorts of long geeky words -- as well as the "top of mind" and "brand" words.
